By following these steps and considering the general tips, you should be able to activate the mobile radio on your device successfully. If you encounter persistent issues, it’s advisable to reach out to your device manufacturer or mobile carrier for further assistance.

1. Turn on your device

Cellular radio is all about wireless communication and transmission, which is useful in today’s internet-heavy world. It makes it possible to stay connected to the outside world even while travelling. Cellular radios work with ultra-high frequencies, the same kind that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi use. They also support a variety of cellular network technology like global system for mobile communications (GSM), 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G.

While cellular radios make modern smartphones extremely useful, they also demand heightened battery usage. This is why maximizing these features with a view to extending your phone’s life is important.

One way to do so is to disable apps that use cellular radio services, such as music apps and fitness tracking programs. Another is to turn off WiFi and GPS when not using them – both of which can drain the battery too. However, if you find that your battery still drains quickly, even when these applications are not active, then the problem is probably a bug with your device’s mobile radio settings.

To address this, you can use an app like NextRadio to activate your mobile radio and listen to FM stations with just your headphones (which act as an antenna). All you need is a compatible device that supports an FM tuner and the right software. Alternatively, you can use the pre-installed Samsung radio app to turn on your mobile radio.

2. Open the Next Radio app

The Next Radio app (formerly called iHeartRadio) lets you access local FM radio stations. You’ll need a supported device and carrier as well as wired headphones or earbuds that act as an antenna. This is a separate application that works independently from your phone’s music and media apps.

Activate My Mobile Radio Open the app and tap I’m Ready! (a white button at the bottom of the screen). If prompted to allow the app access to your location, choose OK. NextRadio scans for local stations and displays a list of results if found. The app also includes a basic tuner function that functions like a traditional FM radio. Tap the track forward and backward buttons to auto scan, or manually tune a frequency. If a station comes on that you like, simply tap the heart icon to add it to your favorites.

The app does consume a small amount of data, retrieving station logos and album artwork. However, you can enable a Tuner Only Mode to eliminate the data consumption and run completely offline. You can find this option through the Quick Settings menu (swipe down from the top of your device to open).

3. Plug in your headphones

If you have a pair of headphones plugged into your device, they will act as a radio antenna. This allows the app to automatically scan for available stations. Once a station is found, you can tap on the left and right arrows to navigate the radio playlist.

You can also listen to the radio through your Gabb Phone’s speakers or a Bluetooth wireless speaker, as long as the wired headset is connected. For 2-way radio users, listening through a headset provides the added benefit of being able to communicate with team members without interrupting workflow or breaking the flow of communication.

However, it is important to note that you should never listen to the radio with earbuds or headphones when you are walking or riding a bike, as this can prevent you from hearing warning sounds like car engines or sirens. Doing so could put you in danger, and may result in injuries or death. Also, you should not listen to the radio while working, as this can disrupt your focus and distract you from your work.

4. Tap I’m Ready!

Mobile radios (also known as walkie talkies or two-way radios) allow you to communicate with others on a specific frequency. They are useful in dangerous or high-pressure situations as they give you the ability to instantly reach someone without having to unlock a phone, open an app, search for the contact, dial or text them. The handheld radios you see on security guards or grocery store employees are a type of mobile radio. You can purchase handheld radios at many online or physical retailers. They are inexpensive and consume very little power so you can run them off of a vehicle’s battery for an all-in-one solution. You can even install a permanently mounted radio in your car using a fuse tap from the fuse panel.
