How to Enable Bitcoin on Cash App

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, Cash App allows users to buy and sell Bitcoin within the app. To enable Bitcoin on Cash App, you can follow these general steps. Please note that the process might have changed, so it’s recommended to check for any updates in the Cash App and Bitcoin integration process:
- Download and Install Cash App: Make sure you have the Cash App installed on your mobile device. You can download it from the App Store (for iOS) or Google Play Store (for Android).
- Sign In or Create an Account: Open the Cash App and sign in with your existing account or create a new account.
- Link a Bank Account or Debit Card: To buy Bitcoin on Cash App, you’ll need to link your bank account or debit card to your Cash App account. This is to fund your Cash App balance.
- Navigate to the Bitcoin Section: Once your account is set up and linked to a payment method, look for the Bitcoin section within the app. This is typically located in the “Investing” or “Cash Card” sections.
- Buy Bitcoin: In the Bitcoin section, you should find an option to buy Bitcoin. Enter the amount you want to invest in Bitcoin and confirm the purchase.
- Security Verification: Cash App may ask you to go through additional security verifications, such as providing personal information or confirming your identity.
- Store and Manage Bitcoin: After purchasing Bitcoin, you can find it in your Cash App balance. You can manage and track your Bitcoin holdings within the app.
Verify your identity
Before you can buy or sell Bitcoin on Cash App, you must verify your identity. This process typically involves submitting a picture of your government-issued ID and verifying the information on the ID with Cash App. This step is required for compliance with KYC and AML regulations.
Once you’ve verified your identity, you can access Bitcoin on the Money home screen within Cash App. On-screen prompts help guide you through the process, augmenting your experience.
When you want to send Bitcoin, you’ll need the recipient’s wallet address, which will be displayed on the home screen. You can either scan the QR code or copy and paste the wallet address to a third-party Bitcoin wallet, such as Electrum.

Set up a wallet address

Once your wallet is active, you can deposit Bitcoin directly to your Cash App balance. You can also use your wallet to send Bitcoin to other Cash App users.
To deposit or withdraw Bitcoin, you must verify your identity by providing a clear and legible photo ID. To send Bitcoin to another Cash App user, tap the icon and choose “Send Bitcoin.” Enter the recipient’s wallet address and double-check the address for errors. This is a security precaution to protect you from malware or other scams. You can also scan a QR code to quickly transfer Bitcoin. Once the transaction has been processed, your wallet will display balances in both USD and Bitcoin.
Withdraw
Once you have verified your identity, bought Bitcoin and created a wallet, you can withdraw your Bitcoin to your own wallet or other cryptocurrency. From the Money home screen, select the Bitcoin tile and tap the ‘Withdraw Bitcoin’ button. This opens a modal that gives you a unique Bitcoin address, which you can paste into a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet like Electrum, for example.
Once the transaction completes, you can see the amount in USD or BTC on your Cash App home screen. Using this address, you can then transfer the Bitcoin to another wallet or buy more if you’d like.
